Joel Mier is a Clinical Professor of Marketing at the top-20 business school, the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond. He is also the Program Director for the Bench Top Innovations program, a year-long entrepreneurial program where students go from “idea to revenue in 9 months” as they research, create, and commercialize a CPG product. He has been voted both Faculty of the Year and received the Innovative Educator of the year award.
Mier joined academia after a 25+ year career as a practitioner with vast experience in marketing, insights, and strategy leadership roles at firms including Adobe, Netflix, and the Fortune 200 financial services company, Genworth. Since joining the Robins School full-time in 2016, Mier has also led The Mier Practice, a growth-oriented consulting firm that helps organizations unleash organic growth through a deeper and passionate organization-wide focus on the customer. The firm’s clients range from pre-seed start-ups to Fortune 10 organizations: Under Armour, CarMax, Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), McKesson, McCain Foods, and dozens of others.
